In 2018, while our founder Gwen was taking sewing classes, she was approached by a group of non-English speaking SIV Afghan refugee women to help them start their own small businesses. Gwen quickly helped them procure recycled clothing, sewing essentials, and sewing machines and everyone got down to business and launched the Super Sewing Shop coupled with opening EcoChic Boutique at the Shops at Stonefield. Business was dismal, but the 501c3 was launched, and we quickly evolved from there. From creating the Love Mother Earth festivals complete with slow fashion shows. we helped with many endeavors from presenting at the Union Nations to help cultivate global policy to combat homelessness to humbly winning 8 best feature documentary awards for our first social justice documentary on homelessness, 'If It Could Happen to Me, It Could Happen to You.'
In this past year, we have rebranded to Blue Mosaic where he have 6 primary functions:
1. federal policy to combat human trafficking;
2. our 2nd award winning film, Traffikid;
3. creating systemic change to combat our climate crisis with STEAM curriculum via our Kids Climate Club;
4. the Super Kids Group book club helps children with life disadvantages learn about their circumstances;
5. EcoChic Boutique is where we sell organic cotton, organic hemp, bamboo, fair trade jewelry and coffee;
6. Bee Bus Stops is currently a part of the Harvard iLab and will launch our first green roof in Charlottesville, Virginia.
